Mister Rogers carries in some books and talks about trying to learn Greek. He writes the word “love” in Greek and then sings “There Are Many Ways.” Mr. McFeely shows Mister Rogers different kinds of whistles. Eileen McNamara gives a whistling demonstration. Mister Rogers has trouble whistling and says that he can do other things and that no one person can do everything. He feeds the fish and says they can do things people can’t do. He plays with the Neighborhood of Make-Believe model and talks about who lives there. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Robert Troll asks Trolley and King Friday census questions such as, “What is your favorite color?” Lady Aberlin is doing research on the wind with a wind machine, and offers to help with the census count. She enrolls X and Henrietta in the census and sings “You are pretty.” Lady Aberlin, Robert Troll, and the king discuss how Trolley will sign the census. Trolley signs with his wheel marks. Mister Rogers sings “You’re Growing.” He talks about how different people can do different things.
Mister Rogers talks about how he can use a tube from a sweeper as a tunnel for a little car and then pretends that he is an elephant while singing “We Are Elephants.” Ella Jenkins stops by to discuss the Indian Hindi greeting she learned from a friend that shows respect for others. Ella and Mister Rogers sing a balloon song, play kazoos, and sing “London Bridge is Falling Down.” Mister Rogers says that he has learned a lot from Ella because he likes her so much.In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Lady Aberlin, with her wind machine, follows a strong wind to the museum where Lady Elaine is vacuuming. They talk with H.J. Elephant, who is taking boomerang lessons from Lady Elaine. Robert Troll asks H.J. some census questions, and Lady Elaine comments that everyone is different. Lady Aberlin and Robert discuss the ways of telling people you love them. Mister Rogers and Mr. McFeely discuss a computer printout, and Mr. McFeely says he is having some trouble with his computerized delivery system. Mr. McFeely and Mister Rogers lace shoe laces through construction paper that has holes punched in it. Mister Rogers talks about the many ways of learning and shows a video of children and adults learning from each other.
Mr. Rogers finishes making a colorful paper chain out of construction paper. He reads out loud from “A Piece of red paper,” a book about the different shapes and objects one can make out of paper. Mr. McFeely stops by to help Mister Rogers decorate his house with the paper chain and watch a video, “How people make construction paper.” In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, King Friday gives Miss Paulificate several gold paper bracelets. Miss P. asks H.J. Elephant about his boomerang lessons. He practices by booming away. As soon as he is gone, Lady Aberlin rushes in with her wind velocity machine. Lady Elaine asks Lady Aberlin to deliver some paper chains to the school. Daniel Tiger, Prince Tuesday, Ana Platypus, and Miss Cow are startled by H.J. Elephant’s unexpected boomerang appearance. Lady Aberlin asks H.J. to boom away and discovers the wind source. King Friday gives Miss P. a paper gold necklace to match her bracelet. Mister Rogers discusses how Lady Aberlin’s hard work and determination led her to find the wind source. He sings “You’ve Got to do It.”
Mister Rogers talks about his friend, Eric Kloss, a musician who is blind. He plays a cassette of Eric’s work and talks about visiting him later. He says we learn many things by being curious and wondering, then sings “Did You Know?” He explains what a field trip is. Mister Rogers visits Eric Kloss, who explains how a reading machine works. Eric demonstrates how the machine reads a letter and poem and that it can speak in nine different voices. The poem is about being the best at whatever you are. John Costa and Eric show Mister Rogers their jazz workshop and perform an instrumental of “Let’s Think of Something to Do.” Mister Rogers says he is grateful for the people he knows and that we are all teachers and learners. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Edgar Cooke asks Prince Tuesday to show the students how to make good foods on their field trip. The prince explains to the king that the purpose of the field trip is to visit people in the neighborhood in order to learn what they do. Mayor Maggie asks Cornflake to show his manufacturing business. Maggie and Chuck Aber visit Lady Elaine. Mr. Jones has invented a learning machine which Lady Elaine feels would be more efficient than field trips and teachers. Mayor Maggie suggests including the children in the decision making, then goes to ask the students what they would prefer to do.
Mister Rogers talks about different sizes of batteries and shows how a flashlight works. Maggie Stewart brings in some things that use batteries. Maggie sings and signs “It’s the Style to Wear a Smile.” They talk about learning to sing and sign. Mr. McFeely shows Mister Rogers a new battery-powered delivery wagon he has, explaining the use of the brake and accelerator, and shows the batteries it runs on. Mister Rogers explains that Trolley doesn’t have batteries, but runs on electricity. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Lady Aberlin is placing a sign about castle activities for the field trip. She and Edgar Cooke talk about the food for the field trip. Chuck Aber shows Lady Aberlin how to drive a car. At the school, when Daniel suggests that machines, fieldtrips, and teachers all enhance education, Ana, Tuesday, Harriett, Mr. Jones, and Maggie agree. Lady Aberlin takes a telephone call at Henrietta’s and King Friday tells Trolley that he is prepared for his speech. Mister Rogers says that when people get together they can get some good ideas. He says that human beings learn best and the most from other humans, especially from people who really care about them. He sings “It’s You I Like” and says the people who love you best are the ones you learn the most from, and the more you learn, the better you feel about yourself and the world we live in.
