A favorite factory tour, How People Make Crayons, is featured in this episode. As Mister Rogers draws with crayons, he says that each person’s drawing is unique and encourages drawing as a helpful way to express what children are feeling. In Make-Believe, King Friday decides to have a “Draw the Neighborhood” contest and Lady Elaine Fairchilde decides she will be the winner! It gives Mister Rogers a chance to talk about feelings of jealousy and other feelings about winning and losing.

Mister Rogers takes a field trip to an art museum where curator Bay Judson helps him learn about and appreciate some of the different paintings there. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, there are lots of feelings about winning and losing as the neighbors prepare for a drawing contest. Henrietta Pussycat is feeling jealous when she thinks that X the Owl no longer is her best friend.

Amid much excitement, Big Bird from “Sesame Street” arrives and reassures Henrietta that he will never take her place – that X the Owl will always be her best friend and closest neighbor. Mister Rogers reminds children that even “When a Baby Comes to Your House,” no one can ever take your place.

Mister Rogers visits a dance studio where football great Lynn Swann shows him the different parts of his football uniform and how dancing has helped him to play football. Lynn Swann also visits in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, where he and Bob Dog are disappointed about losing a football game. They talk about their feelings about winning and losing.

It’s time to announce the winner of the “Draw The Neighborhood” contest in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe and King Friday awards a very unusual prize – and one that can be given to everyone. It’s a rainbow! Mister Rogers shows a video of how real gold is processed. He talks about feelings of winning and losing and how the “doing” is the real fun of the contest.
