Today is a rainy day. Mister Rogers comes in wearing a wet slicker. He shows how his umbrella works. A film of a rainy day is shown. Mr. McFeely comes by with a package on which most of the address has become illegible. They figure out that it is for Chef Brockett. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, King Friday is bored. Lady Aberlin tells him that the president of Finland has called to say that Barbara Koski, the singer, will perform for them. Handyman Negri is asked to accompany her. She brings jewelry for the king and an umbrella for the queen. She sings several songs. A film is shown of Finland. Mr. McFeely brings Mister Rogers a fortune cookie from the box he delivered to Chef Brockett.
Mister Rogers puts together a doll house. He has furniture and a doll family with parents, a little boy, and a baby. The boy and his father visit the grandparents’ house in the kitchen. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, King Friday instructs Lady Aberlin to put a number on each house starting with the castle. Lady Aberlin doesn’t think the neighborhood needs numbers and that King Friday ordered this so he can be number one. Despite Lady Aberlin’s hesitation, the neighbors respond positively to numbering their homes. Then Lady Aberlin realizes that the Eiffel Tower should be one, and not the castle.
Mister Rogers begins to make a book from construction paper to hold the pictures viewers send him. He has forgotten the paper fasteners at the store. Officer Clemmons delivers them and tells Mister Rogers that Friday is Chef Brockett’s birthday. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, the number five Lady Aberlin left for Lady Elaine at the museum is no longer there. Lady Elaine has given her house number to Grandpere in return for numbers one through ten. She has put one number on each pillar of the museum. The king then orders that all house numbers must come down. Lady Elaine says she will keep up the numbers she wants and that King Friday can’t always be number one. Mister Rogers has made another book for Chef Brockett as a birthday present and decides to bake a cake tomorrow.
Mister Rogers bakes a cake for Chef Brockett’s birthday. When Chef Brockett stops by, Mister Rogers asks for his help, saying the cake is for a friend. Chef Brockett indicates what Mister Rogers is to do, but Mister Rogers does it himself .In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Robert Troll is painting the trolley’s portrait as a gift for Chef Brockett. X plans to give him an orange. Henrietta Pussycat doesn’t know what her gift will be. Robert Troll suggests she give Chef Brockett a kiss. Daniel decides to give an ice cube that doesn’t melt.
Mister Rogers frosts Chef Brockett’s birthday cake. Lady Aberlin comes by looking for Chef Brockett. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, the neighbors give Chef Brockett their gifts for his birthday. The king has a special gift planned in the AO room of the castle. The king gives Chef Brockett the Atlantic Ocean for one year. The queen wishes him good health for the coming year. Mister Rogers gives Chef Brockett the cake and the cookbook.
